3D Tech Talk – Aviation, Aeronautical Society, 3D web viewer

Welcome to our recurring post, 3D Interactive Tech Talk, highlighting how interactive technology is being used right now and where it’s headed.

North Carolina Offering Needs Fast, Portable Training To Meet Aviation Demand
“Officials in North Carolina have begun a recruiting effort to encourage students to think about a new kind of manufacturing job, in the aviation field.” And TIMCO is training workers in aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul by having them strip down a Boeing 737. Imagine how much faster they could accomplish these objectives with visual, interactive and portable 3D training? (Answer: Very.)

Digital Media Simulation Training Conference In London
On November 20, the Royal Aeronautical Society will be hosting a Flight Simulation Conference in London. The event will highlight innovative technologies “made possible by converging technologies such as those found in smart phones, tablets, other hand held devices and multi-media technologies [that] can change the way we create simulations, learn, deliver training content and interact with each other.”

Visualizing THIS Site’s Content Made Easy With 3D Imaging
If your research articles relied heavily on 3D data, but publishing only allowed 2D imagery, you’d be disappointing lots of readers. Elsevier faced this challenge, so it solved the problem with an interactive viewer that lets readers “view and interact with publications’ 3D models on a variety of devices, including mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops.”
