VR Journalism Breeds Compassion at Sundance Film Festival

screen-shot-2015-02-01-at-9-21-17-amThe point of journalism has always been to bring stories of distant lands and experiences home to each reader or viewer of the news. But now VR technology in the hands of filmmaking activists offers the chance to BE there, in the throng of a Syrian terrorist attack, or at a volatile protest on the streets of New York City. The experience feels real, eliciting a deeper emotional response. It’s the closest thing to truly walking in another person’s shoes . . . for  now.

Norwegian Nurses Not Playing With VR
vcuGamers might be the primary audience for the advanced VR experience offered by Oculus Rift headsets, but researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) have a higher purpose in mind: training nurses. With patients being released as quickly as they’re treated, nurses and students often don’t have enough patient contact to gain necessary experience. VR training using Oculus Rift means they can practice as much as they want. NTNU hopes to create an entire virtual hospital from which all medical professionals can benefit.
