3D Interactive Tech Talk – Active Learning vs. Lectures, Virtual Emergency Training

Welcome to our recurring post, 3D Interactive Tech Talk, highlighting how interactive technology is being used right now and where it’s headed.

You know that listening to someone talk at you on a topic is incredibly boring, just as you know water is wet. But did you know that Active Learning is not only more interesting – it also improves retention?

“The meta-analysis, published online today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, concluded that teaching approaches that turned students into active participants rather than passive listeners reduced failure rates and boosted scores on exams by almost one-half a standard deviation.

Now imagine the additional boost learners experience when they take things a step beyond “active learning” to simulation-based learning!

South Korea Planning 3D Emergency Training Simulations for Students
“If students from the elementary school level can learn how to deal with disaster situations such as fires, earthquake, airplane crashes and ship sinkings through simulated drills, it can prevent huge human losses and cut safety-related costs immensely,” the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said in a statement on Thursday.

And taking simulation-based trainings beyond how they are currently being used (for pilots, surgeons and soldiers) makes a LOT of sense. Wouldn’t you agree?
