HoloLens Offers X-Ray Visions of the Future

Microsoft is essentially remaking Roger Corman’s vintage cult classic X – the Man with the X-Ray Eyes as a reality show for the 21st century med student. Professors and students at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine are currently test-driving the new HoloLens headset. It allows 3D virtual views of flesh, muscle, bone, and the organs of the human body – the kind of stuff typically only seen on live patients or cadavers. In addition to unique views of anatomical systems, “[C]reating simulations with the HoloLens … lets [students] have an experience where they can fail.” A good point by Dr. Neil Mehta, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and one I’m sure the live patients appreciate.
