3D Interactive Tech Talk – 3D Virtual Training for LNG, Plumbing & Heating

Welcome to our recurring post, 3D Interactive Tech Talk, highlighting how interactive technology is being used right now and where it’s headed.

LNG Operator Training – Making Complex Functions Safe

214040 3LNG operator training is highly specialized, because it has to be. There are many precautions required to avoid hazards specific to handling this gas, including low temperatures, the flammability of mixtures with air, odorless vapors, boil-off characteristics, and reactions to water and water sprays. And “theoretical training, although essential, cannot be considered to be sufficient in order to ensure the safe operation of a plant.” This is where simulated training comes in. “[A]ble to simulate any hands-on experience in a risk-free environment, [simulated training] is highly recommended for the training of LNG personnel.” It allows them to conduct virtual visits, practice on both routine and fault-based scenarios, review health, safety and environment best practices and run through emergency procedures – and to obtain a level of mastery every facility aspires to.

Using VR Courses to Design & Install Appliances

5447.photo.2The initial design and installation of water tanks requires a careful and informed approach, or could result in difficult (sometimes impossible) maintenance scenarios in the long run and dangerous situations. The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering’s (CIPHE) recently invested in creating ‘virtual reality’ training series, including topics like wiring, augmented gas boiler servicing, a legionella risk management course and more to keep technicians’ skills updated and ensure knowledge gaps aren’t developing over time. “Industry professionals can immerse themselves in a 3D interactive learning experience – seeing components up close and being able to explore best practice when it comes to the design, installation and maintenance of a system, in a memorable way.” The installers will be given water safety scenarios to complete and can earn accredited CPD points and digital certification for validation.
