3D Interactive Tech Talk – ‘live synthetic’ simulations, Naval Maintenance Training

Welcome to our recurring post, 3D Interactive Tech Talk, highlighting how interactive technology is being used right now and where it’s headed.

Gaming Simulations Are Future of Military Training

synthetic-combatThe military is used to simulations – they drill endlessly, so they have to be. But keeping training realistic and effective while keeping costs down is a challenge, which is why the military is turning toward gaming. It “has the advantage of being much more realistic, intuitive, and engaging than other simulators, and it can operate using conventional computers rather than specialized equipment.”

The US Army’s Future Holistic Training Environment Live Synthetic program embodies this new approach to combat training, integrating various simulations into a single, remotely accessible system. And it’s being used on bases across the country.

Maintenance Simulators Headed to Naval Air Station
In line with its plans to purchase 117 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 commercial aircraft to replace its fleet of P-3 aircraft, the Navy has ordered maintenance simulators to provide cost-effective, flexible training. “The Navy plans to begin using six virtual trainers, one ordnance load trainer and 14 hardware-based devices to train P-8A maintenance personnel at Naval Air Station Jacksonville starting in 2016.”
