3D Interactive Tech Talk – 3D Photograph, WEB3D Conference

Welcome to our recurring post, 3D Interactive Tech Talk, highlighting how interactive technology is being used right now and where it’s headed.

3D Manipulation of a 2D Photograph? For Free? Yes, Please!
Some very exciting work coming out of a computer science project made up of researchers from Carnegie Mellon and UC Berkeley. Photo imaging was previously limited as users couldn’t rotate or manipulate an object in three dimensions because the image didn’t capture the side not facing the camera. The new software samples similar stock images and replaces the side not seen to complete the 3D picture. AND it samples current pixles on the photograph to match color and lighting density. And best of all, the software and code are being made available FREE.
