3D Interactive Tech Talk – Simulated Driving in Real Cities, Wearable Cameras, and more

Welcome to our recurring post, 3D Interactive Tech Talk, highlighting how interactive technology is being used right now and where it’s headed.

Google Earth Driving SimulatorGoogle Earth driving simulator lets you drive in real cities
Driving simulators are quite common, but wouldn’t it be fun to tear through 3D replicas of real cities? Thanks to Google Earth and this mash-up, you can! The graphic quality and User interface is quite basic, but the virtual driving through actual streets is a sound concept. Google Street View does the same, but it’s really just stitched images, and doesn’t allow the freedom to just drive in one motion as if one was there. Hopefully as a next step, they’ll combine Google Earth with Street View and create the holy grail of 3D Immersive-ness. Time will tell!

Learning from past made easier with wearable cameras
Researchers are “using machine learning to boil down the stories that wearable cameras are telling.” So you can look forward to being able to manipulate data obtained from wearable technology and harness video stories that can (eventually) help others ‘learn.’ How? Imagine experiential learning through the lens of someone’s previous real-life experience. Takes visual learning to a whole new level.

3D Simulation being used to plan operations, train techs & meet safety requirements
This report details how “3D virtual technology is being used to plan operational procedures, train operators and maintenance technicians, and meet health and safety requirements.” Check out the link to purchase it, if you like, but please note: Heartwood has no connection or vested interest with this organization.
